We Could See So. Indiana’s First Fall Frost This Week – Much Sooner Than Predicited
In a previous article, I shared the Old Farmer's Almanac predictions for when to expect the first frost of 2024 in Southern Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky, but it looks like Mother Nature might have different plans for us.

According to the Farmer's Almanac calculations, the first Fall frost, at least for Evansville isn't supposed to happen until November 4th, but according to Eyewitness News Chief Meteorologist Wayne Hart, we could very possibly get that frost this week. Low temperatures are expected to get down into the 30's, prompting the following official FROST ADVISORY from the National Weather Service for Wednesday, October 16th...
...FROST ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 1 AM CDT /2 AM EDT/ TO 8 AM CDT /9 AM EDT/ WEDNESDAY...
- WHAT...Temperatures as low as 35 will result in frost formation.
- WHERE...All of southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, western Kentucky, and southeast Missouri.
- WHEN...From 1 AM CDT /2 AM EDT/ to 8 AM CDT /9 AM EDT/ Wednesday.
- IMPACTS...Frost could harm sensitive outdoor vegetation. Sensitive outdoor plants may be killed if left uncovered.

What About First Frost Dates for the Rest of Southern Indiana?
We know that this first frost could come a couple of weeks early for Evansville, but what about our neighboring cities in Southern Indiana? The Old Farmer's Almanac originally predicted that Mt. Vernon's first frost would be October 21st (not too far off), and in Newburgh, it would be October 30th.
