I go to Evansville by way of U.S. 60 quite often. For several months, part of that journey has included multiple roundabouts in eastern Henderson County.

I-69 Ohio River Crossing

They're necessary, if a bit dizzying. But on Monday, November 10th, they’ll be doing the work they were meant to do. That’s when the Interstate 69 connector between 60 and US 41 officially opens to traffic.

Lots of traffic, I’m guessing. And I will be a part of it. For one thing, I want to see how much of a time saver it is. For another, I just love interstate highways. I'm a nerd, and I own it.

I-69 Connector

Now, as far as the real questions about saving time going to Evansville, that will have to wait a while. This new corridor is an exciting development, but the entire ORX project is centered around the new bridge that will span the Ohio River. Based on maps I've seen, when it is complete, it will come out somewhere near the Green River Road exit in Evansville.

Again, though, we'll have to be patient. Work on that new bridge isn't expected to begin until 2027, with completion expected sometime in 2031.

Governor Andy Beshear Cuts the I-69 Ribbon

But until then, we have a serious new shortcut, and it was a blast celebrating it and walking it (as far as you wanted) on a beautiful fall afternoon. It was this morning, however, when the new four-lane was officially dedicated. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear was on hand for the ribbon-cutting and celebration.

Sooner rather than later, I plan to tackle the new connector. I'll see you out there.

Plus a bonus 11th highway that's technically split into two.
