10 Things to Do in the Evansville Area When You’re Under 21
How to Pass the Time
What should I do today? What an incredibly difficult question to answer. With so many options that you can't think until you're already in bed.
Being under 21, you might have some restrictions. Like no bars, no gambling, no this, no that.
This list helps to generate ideas for the wonderfully, awfully boring, sometimes, Midwest.
Go to the Mall!
A classic, and a classic for a reason. Malls let you do anything and everything from shopping for clothes, games, trinkets, candles, toys, gifts, and food. The mall is the perfect place to get a little bit of everything all at once.
Some malls include
- Eastland Mall in Evansville, IN
- Consumer Mall in Owensboro, KY
- Many More
Swimming!
A great summer almost always involves a pool.
But how am I supposed to swim if it’s not summer? You may ask. Easy, just swim inside. There are plenty of places with indoor pools.
- A bunch of YMCAs
- Hotels, if you’re really desperate, they might even have a hot tub
However, there are many more options during the summer.
Swimming is a great way to exercise and show off that new swimsuit. A great time with friends.
Mini Golf!
Another fun, friendly, sometimes overly competitive, activity with friends. What could possibly be more fun than hitting plastic balls with dimples with rubber makers into small holes of fake grass?
With so many possibilities and themes for Mini Golf, there is almost no way to get bored.
There’s a whole bunch, for example, in Evansville, there is Walther’s Golf and Fun. Just look up mini-golf near me and see what pops up, and what fun ensues.
Concerts!
Who doesn’t love live music? The Ford Center or Old National Events Plaza in Evansville can have some pretty big names.
You could also look more local, like the Franklin Street Tavern for local music and artists. Have some fun.
Movies!
With a constant rotation of movies, something has gotta look good. From the latest action adventure to the sci-fi romance, movie theaters are the place to be. Just maybe make a quick stop at a gas station for snacks, candy, and drinks.
Or if you have one nearby, you can go to a drive-in. Those are always fun, minus some mosquitoes.
Hiking!
Reconnect with nature. Hear the birds sing. Maybe see a deer. Why not smell that sweet fall/spring/summer breeze? I guess you could feel the winter chill if you’d like. There are plenty of places to hike.
- Wesselmen Woods
- Garden of the Gods
- Burdette Park
- Many many more
Volunteer!
A great way to help the community, and depending on your age, help build a college application. Nothing wrong with making yourself look good on paper.
There are an insane number of ways to help the community.
- Tristate Food Bank
- Vanderburgh Humane Society
- American Red Cross
- Park clean-up opportunities
However, you want to help. From providing food and shelter for people to providing food and shelter for animals. Helping the sick or cleaning up parks. There are amazing ways to help your community, you just gotta ask.
Work Out!
We’ve already mentioned hiking and swimming, which are great physical activities. But there are plenty of other ways to get physical.
You could look for local sports opportunities. To play basketball, soccer, badminton, pickleball, and synchronized swimming. The world is your oyster.
Gyms also will probably let you in, especially if your parents have a pass that lets them bring a guest. So lift those weights! There are gyms almost everywhere. I’m confident you can find one near your school or where you live. Or maybe your school is a gym. Or maybe your home is a gym. Whatever works for you.
Theater!
A play or a musical, live on stage just for you. Everyone is unique, so you’ll always have a reason to see one. Or maybe you could just be in one. Why not aim to be the star of the show and be cast as 5 separate background characters with collectively 2.35 lines?
Places with shows pretty frequently.
- Children’s Theater of Southern Indiana
- Evansville Civic Theater
- Universities like Evansville University and the University of Southern Indiana
Escape Rooms!
A fun brain teaser that you can do with friends or alone. They have a variety of unique puzzles to keep you entertained.
Most places like this rotate out rooms for even more fun. So go get trapped for an hour!
