The Spirit of Evansville’s Speakeasy, HUSH, Lives On With a Murder Mystery Twist
Evansville Speakeasy Hush Is Coming Back, Well, Kinda
Back in October, I shared the news that Evansville’s beloved speakeasy, Hush, had closed its doors to the public. Owner Brendon Meier sold the space to someone planning to use it as a private bar, officially ending Hush as we knew it.
At the time, Brendon thanked the community for an incredible run and left us with a pretty intriguing tease.
“If you like what we built in ‘24, wait and see what we create in ‘26. We sincerely miss each of our wonderful customers and can’t wait to see each of you again. Until next time.”
Naturally, that got people talking.
A New Update Reveals What Is Coming Next
Over the weekend, the Hush social media page finally shared more details, and the concept is just as dramatic as you’d expect.
The 1920s speakeasy is not disappearing. Instead, it’s evolving into a Murder Mystery Dinner Theater experience set to take place at another downtown Evansville location.
Unsolved Evansville Murders Take Center Stage
According to the post, the team will focus on real unsolved murders that happened in downtown Evansville, many dating back to the 1920s.
We’re talking bootleggers and flapper girls and even some special guests like Al Capone’s southside gang, and even an encounter with old Jack the Ripper. These stories are pulled straight from history, not fiction.
“These are not fabricated stories. They are researched and written by Kelly Coures and are actual murders from headlines of the Evansville Courier many years ago. Several made national news, but the murders were never solved and the murderers were never brought to justice.” - HUSH Facebook
Oh, goosebumps!
Signature Cocktails Are Still Part of the Experience
While they have not revealed the exact location yet, they did confirm one very important detail. Guests will still be able to enjoy Hush’s famous signature cocktails during the dinner theater experience. As a former bartender at Hush, I can assure you that they are top drawer!
Could You Solve a 100-Year-Old Mystery?
The big question now is this.
Do you have what it takes to hear the evidence, unravel the mystery, and solve murders that even our local police department could not crack a century ago?
More details are expected soon, but one thing is clear. Hush may be gone, but the story is far from over.
