Frozen Tater Tots Recalled in Kentucky After Possible Plastic Contamination
If you have frozen tater tots in your freezer, now is a good time to take a closer look.
Why The FDA Issued The Frozen Tater Tot Recall
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is alerting consumers to a voluntary recall involving tens of thousands of cases of frozen potato products that may contain clear hard plastic fragments.
According to the FDA, McCain Foods USA Inc. initiated the recall on December 3, 2025. The recall affects approximately 38,800 cases of frozen tater tots that were distributed across multiple states, including Kentucky.
Which Tater Tot Products Are Affected By The Recall
The recall involves two specific products. The first is Ore-Ida Tater Tots shaped potatoes, item number OIF00215A. These were packaged in 30-pound clear, unlabeled poly bags and include batch codes 1005479808 and 1005480444.
The second product is Sysco Imperial Potato Tater Barrel, item number 1000006067. This product was distributed by Sysco Corporation and packaged in 6 bags of 5 pounds each, also in clear, unlabeled poly bags. The affected batch codes for this product are 1005482717 and 1005485660.
What A Class II Recall Means For Consumers
The FDA classified the recall as Class II, which means the use or exposure to the affected products may cause temporary or medically reversible health consequences. While no injuries have been reported in connection with the recall, the presence of plastic fragments poses a potential choking or injury risk.

Who Is Most Likely To Have These Products
Consumers, restaurants, and food service providers are advised not to consume the recalled products. Anyone who has purchased or received these items should discard them immediately or follow the return instructions provided by the distributor.
Because the affected products were sold in bulk packaging, they are more likely to be found in restaurants, schools, and institutional food service settings. However, consumers who shop through restaurant supply stores or purchase bulk frozen foods should still check their freezers carefully.
What To Do If You Have Recalled Tater Tots
Anyone with questions about the recall or who believes they may have been affected should contact the FDA or the product distributor directly.
Food safety officials continue to encourage consumers to stay informed about recalls and to regularly check freezer and pantry items for recalled products.
