Coats & Winter Gear Wanted: Donate to the Haitian Center of Evansville Today
With cold weather settling in, our friends at the Haitian Center of Evansville are seeking donations of coats and other winter gear like hats, gloves, and scarves.
This Winter May Be the First for Some of Our Neighbors
There is no doubt that it gets cold here in the Evansville area this time of year. For many of us, we are well used to bundling up against the chill, but for some in our community, this may be their very first experience with winter weather here in Indiana.
The Haitian Center of Evansville Works to Provide Needed Resources
Many of our Haitian neighbors have been part of the community in and around Evansville for twenty years or more. Some, however, are newer to the area. Fortunately, there is a wonderful resource that works tirelessly to provide services for Haitians and other residents in the area. That resource is the Haitian Center of Evansville.
Indiana Weather Is a Lot Different Than The Weather in Haiti
One of only two facilities of its kind in the United States, the Haitian Center of Evansville was founded by Evansville resident, Gelina Mascoe who immigrated to from Haiti as a young girl. While speaking with Gelina a few weeks back about all the ways the Haitian Center touches the community, she mentioned that our Haitian neighbors who are newer to the area may not have the necessities to stay warm in a climate so drastically different from their homeland of Haiti.
We Can Help Our Haitian Neighbors Stay Warm This Winter
This is where we can help! The Haitian Center of Evansville is hosting a Coat Drive to help ensure our friends and neighbors of all ages in the Haitian community can stay warm this winter.
Drop Off Coats & Other Winter Essentials at the Haitian Center of Evansville
You can drop off your donations of new or like-new coats, hats, gloves, and winter scarves at the Haitian Center of Evansville anytime Monday through Friday between 8:30 am and 4 pm CST. The center is located at 501 John Street, Suite 6 in Evansville. According to Gelina, they are in need of winter essentials for all ages, genders, and sizes.
No Time to Shop? Monetary Donations Are Accepted
If you don't have time to shop or drop off a donation in person, you can learn more about making a monetary donation to the Haitian Center of Evansville through their fiscal sponsor, the United Way of Southwestern Indiana.
Help us help our neighbors stay warm this winter. ❤
