Farewell To Evansville Lost Pets Facebook Page: 14 Years Of Reuniting Pets
One online staple in the world of local animal rescue is saying goodbye after nearly fourteen years.
More Than Thirteen Years of Helping the Community and Its Pets
The Evansville Lost Pets Facebook page first launched on December 3, 2010. In that time the public page has amassed more than 30,000 likes and 32,000 followers. It has also been a tremendous help to the community.
Reuniting Happy Tales
The premise of the page is that people in and around Evansville, Indiana can share photos of their lost pets, or in some cases photos of stray pets they have found, all in hopes of a happy reunion.
The Page Really Works
The page works well as far as reuniting lost pets with their owners. However, it's apparent by the recent post to Facebook that the world of reuniting lost pets is not all sunshine and rainbows.
Volunteer Page Admins
The admins on the page have worked hard over the years to moderate and keep negativity at bay. Many of them have jobs, families, pets and lives of their own that they juggle while also working to keep the Evansville Lost Pets page up and running smoothly.
Evansville Lost Pets' Final Days
According to the post made to Facebook, page administrators say the page will cease operations on June 30, 2024. They cite a number of reasons for the decision, including scammers, and changes made by Meta making it more difficult and time consuming to maintain and manage the page. They also say negativity on the page has become a regular occurrence.
And, in the past several years, negative comments, arguments between followers, and verbal attacks against admins, local animal controls and people posting (especially if they take a pet to animal control), have become almost a daily occurrence. Much of our time is spent monitoring and deleting these types of comments, often more time than posting lost and found pets. We’ve managed this for quite a while, but some recent occurrences – and the fact that other resources are now available – have convinced us the time has come to step away.
What Now for Pets Lost In and Around Evansville
With Evansville Lost Pets going away after June 30th, they say there is another page that you can follow if you want to help reunite lost and missing pets. It's called Evansville, IN - Lost Dogs, Cats, & Pets - PawBoost Community and can be found here.
To the admins of the Evansville Lost Pets page, we just want to say thank you for all you have done over the years to help bring lost pets back to their families. We wish you all the best ❤🐾
