Popular Squishy Toys Recalled Over Dangerous Water Beads Inside

Squishy toys have become extremely popular over the last several years, and not just with kids.

I've owned a few myself and used them as fidgets or stim toys. There's something incredibly satisfying about having a squishy little thing to occupy your hands while you're working, watching TV, or trying to focus.

But if you've got a collection of squishies around the house, especially if you have children, you'll want to take a closer look at them.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced recalls involving two similar squishy toys containing water beads that can pose a serious risk if swallowed,

Combined, the recalls affect approximately 15,200 toys.

Rainbow Mystery Squishy Bun Toys Recalled

The first recall involves approximately 7,200 Rainbow Mystery Squishy Bun Toys, Model D08004, imported from OKK Trading Inc.

These squishies are translucent pink with a cartoon face and contain glitter and water beads. They're packaged inside a tan plastic container designed to resemble a bamboo steamer.

Look for the words "Rainbow MYSTERY" and "SUGAR EDITION" on the removable packaging.

According to the CPSC, the toys violate the mandatory federal safety standard for toys because the water beads inside can expand to a size larger than permitted.

The toys were sold at various third-party stores nationwide between May and August 2026.

Squeezy Dumplings Sold on Amazon Also Recalled

A separate recall announced the same day involves approximately 8,000 GIHNJSI Squeezy Dumplings sold on Amazon by Chenyuanhui.

These toys are translucent, round squishy balls with cartoon faces. They also contain glitter-like particles and water beads, and come inside a tan plastic container resembling a bamboo steamer.

The removable label reads "SQUEEZY DUMPLINGS" and "SQUEEZE ME."

They were sold through Amazon from May through June 2026 for approximately $20.

Again, no incidents or injuries have been reported at this time.

Why Are Water Beads Dangerous?

The problem isn't necessarily what happens while you're squeezing these toys. It's what can happen if one breaks open and a water bead is swallowed.

According to the CPSC, water beads can expand after being ingested, creating a choking and intestinal obstruction hazard.

An ingested water bead can cause severe discomfort, vomiting, and dehydration. In the most serious cases, the CPSC warns that ingestion can result in death.

That makes these particularly concerning around young children who could potentially get access to the beads if the outer squishy toy becomes damaged.

What Should You Do if You Have One?

The CPSC says consumers should stop using the recalled toys immediately.

For the Rainbow Mystery Squishy Bun, consumers should contact OKK Trading for a full refund. Owners will be asked to write "RECALLED" in permanent marker on both the squishy and its tan container, dispose of the toy, and email a photo showing the disposed product to recall@okktoys.com.

For the GIHNJSI Squeezy Dumplings, consumers should follow the same basic process and contact the seller for a full refund. After making and disposing of the toy, the photo should be emailed to GIHNJSI_recall@163.com.

The recalls were both announced on September 3, 2026, and are listed by the CPSC as recall numbers 26-737 and 26-738.

If you're like me and have accumulated a random assortment of squishies as fidgets over the years, this is probably a good excuse to give the collection a quick inspection.
