The oldest county fair in Indiana kicks off on June 23, continuing an over 150-year tradition.

As a kid, I loved going to my area county fair. Sure, it was hot, but that didn't stop my siblings and I from enjoying an assortment of rides, the annual demo derby, and, of course, some delicious fair food. However, in the wrong combination, each of those things could easily bring turmoil. In fact, to this day, I refuse to ride "The Scrambler," which basically features little cars swirling and swinging back and forth at what feels like a tremendous amount of speed.

While I've never personally been, the Harrison County, Indiana, Fair remains the oldest continuous county fair in the Hoosier state. According to the website, the very first Harrison County Fair was held from September 11–14, way back in the year 1860. The event has even been held in that same location for over 150 years. (Fun fact: In 1866, admission to the fair for a single person was just 25 cents.)

The 2024 Harrison County Fair will kick off on Sunday, June 23, at 6 p.m. Events will get underway following a big parade that will travel through historic downtown Corydon. The fair organizers stated on social media that guests will see entertainment from local business floats, marching bands, dance teams, cars, tractors, and much more. After the parade, the Little Miss and Master Crowning will take place, followed by the crowning of the Harrison County Fair queen.

On Monday, 4-H events will get underway and last throughout the remainder of the week. Meanwhile, there will be plenty of rides and food for attendees to enjoy. On Saturday, June 29, the fair will close out events with its annual "Mini Madness & Big Car Demo" along with its "Power Wheels Demo." You can view the full Harrison County Fair 2024 schedule here.
