Ok, maybe that was just me, but the fact that I can now fulfill this dream and do it by celebrating my favorite University, Indiana University, is a win-win situation! Even better? The film will be based in Bloomington (obviously) and is about the start of the women's side of Little 500. What I Almost Remember About Little 500 Weekend

I spent a lot of time in Bloomington over the years, from studying at Indiana University to partying at one of the biggest party schools in the country. With that experience, I can attest to the fact that Little 500 weekend is absolutely the world's greatest college weekend, as it's been dubbed for years. Why, you might ask? During my time at IU, the weekend of Little 500 included stories of Little Wayne (yes, the rapper) throwing out bottles of Crown Royal, and honestly, that's the only safe story I have to tell (or remember). It's something you truly have to experience.

What is Little 500 Weekend and What Exactly is the Film About?

The entire philanthropic weekend is actually focused around a bicycle race, the Little 500. Started in 1951, the race consists of four-man teams racing relay style for 50 miles (200 laps) in Bill Armstrong Stadium. The 500 part of the term is an homage to the great Indianapolis 500. The race itself inspired the 1979 award-winning film, Breaking Away. Women were not permitted to race in the early years, and they hosted their own tricycle race, the Mini 500, around the same premise. However, in 1987, the sorority Kappa Alpha Theta challenged history by entering an all-female team in the men's race. Although the female team narrowly missed qualifying, their impressive performance was enough to get people talking. The women's event is only 100 laps but follows the same rigorous relay format as the men's. The film will be about the first women's race in 1988, and a lot of extras are needed to fill all of these infamous Bloomington landmarks for filming.
